An Introduction to Somatic Movement

About the Class

Based on the Somatic work of Thomas Hanna. this Somatic movement workshop in Sheffield, offers a gentle approach to improving mobility and reducing muscle tension. It is primarily floor-based, using gentle pandiculation (squeeze and release) movements to enhance body awareness and address the root causes of pain.

Somatic movement can gently help improve our awareness of bodily sensation, leading to better function and mobility in everyday activities such as walking and running. By understanding what causes pain, we can begin to reduce it, and learn to identify and change the tension patterns affecting posture, gait, and movement.

The approach can also be used as part of a rehabilitation program after injuries, accidents, or surgery, and it is well suited to anyone who needs a slowed-down, more gentle way of moving. (Please check with your GP or physician for suitability)
