About the Class
This class is based on Hanna Somatic Movement, developed by Thomas Hanna and taught to me by Martha Peterson of Essential Somatics.
Somatic movement gently enhances awareness of your body and helps address the root causes of pain, rather than simply treating symptoms.
Through guided movement and mindful attention, you’ll learn to recognise habitual tension patterns that influence posture, gait, and everyday movement. These unconscious patterns can, over time, contribute to discomfort and pain, poor balance and poor mobility.
Hanna Somatic Movement works directly with the nervous system to help release these patterns, offering lasting relief from common complaints including lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension, and sciatica.
By bringing attention to bodily sensations and using simple pandiculation—a gentle, intentional contraction and slow release of muscles—you can safely reduce tension, improve mobility and balance, and feel more at ease in your body.
Classes run during school term times, with drop-in spaces also available.
